Biography

I am Dr. Abeer Shaheen, a Bahraini executive, author, sustainability strategist, and mother. My professional journey has moved between energy, architecture, climate strategy, governance, and national competitiveness, but at the heart of it has always been one purpose: to turn complex ideas into practical knowledge that can serve institutions, communities, and future generations. For more than 29 years, I have worked across the Gulf and internationally in roles connected to energy transition, sustainable cities, environmental design, ESG, and strategic transformation. My career has included senior advisory and executive work with major energy and government-related institutions, academic and research contributions, and public engagement on climate, sustainability, and competitiveness. I have also been privileged to contribute as a speaker, lecturer, and examiner in different academic and professional settings. My recent book, *From Energy Security to Value Security*, reflects this journey. It was written from a Gulf perspective, but with an international executive audience in mind. The book explores how energy, climate, capital, governance, artificial intelligence, real assets, and institutional trust are now deeply connected. I wanted to introduce the idea of “Value Security” as a way of thinking beyond traditional resource security and toward the protection, creation, and measurement of long-term value. Writing this book was both a professional and personal milestone. It came at a time of transition in my own life, after many years of executive work and after facing professional and family challenges. As a mother of two daughters, one of whom is a child of determination with autism, I have learned that resilience is not an abstract word. It is something lived every day. This has made my writing more grounded, more purposeful, and more committed to impact. I would like to be part of the PublisHer program because I believe women’s voices, especially from the Gulf and the wider Arab region, need stronger pathways into global publishing conversations. Many women in our region carry deep expertise, lived experience, and original ideas, yet they often lack access to the networks, publishing knowledge, visibility, and mentorship needed to bring those ideas to international audiences. For me, publishing is not only about producing a book. It is about building a platform for thought leadership, dialogue, and change. I want to learn how to position my work more effectively, strengthen my author voice, understand international publishing pathways, and connect with other women who are using writing to influence business, policy, society, education, and culture. I am particularly interested in learning how to develop my current book into a wider bilingual platform and future series. My ambition is to make strategic knowledge from the Gulf more accessible to executives, students, policymakers, and young women who want to contribute to sustainability, energy, climate action, and national development. I also hope to use my publishing journey to encourage more Arab women to write with confidence and to see their professional experience as valuable intellectual capital. I would bring to the program a combination of executive experience, regional insight, academic grounding, and personal determination.
